How ‘Dimples Like Demi’ Dimple Surgery in 2017 was the Hottest Plastic Surgery Trend in Las Vegas

By Dr. Iman Sadri

Las Vegas sees many plastic surgery requests in a year pertaining to facial aesthetics. From lip augmentation to Botox. For 2017, however, a new trend has emerged : Dimple (addition) Surgery. Similar to how a stylist is told their client wants their hair to resemble their favorite star, Dimple Surgery has seen a request by patient clients to look like Demi Lovato.

According to Dr. Young Kim, a plastic surgeon from New York, who has traveled to Las Vegas to learn how to place dimples at a private surgical conference. Dr. Kim told me at Mesa Grill at the Caesar’s in Las Vegas how dimple surgery is becoming big also in Seoul, where he also maintains a seasonal practice. He sees trends following those being set in Vegas.

Dr. Kim does Botox, Juvederm, rhinoplasty, chin surgery, eyelid surgery, and facial implants among many other facial aesthetic procedures. One would assume that placing dimples is a cake walk compared to complex nose reduction surgery, for example. Perhaps, something that can even be self taught if you’re a surgeon. However, this is not the case, as Dr. Kim has traveled from the East Coast to Vegas to specifically learn how to place dimples by top Vegas surgeons.

As he sipped on a Jalepeno Pineapple Margarita in the rocks Dr. Kim added, ” The hottest request is ‘Dimples Like Demi’ – where patient clients want dimples added to their face look like the dimples of Demi Lovato.” When asked why clients wanted dimples like Demi Lovato and not Ariana Grande, Jennifer Garner, or Kate Middleton, Dr. Kim’s only response, ” If they want dimples like Demi, then they want dimples like Demi.” He patted me on the shoulder, ” Look, you want dimples to be subtle yet be an extension of the smile.”

When researching dimples, I came to learn that these surgeries are to help accentuate a smile by extending where the eye looks on the same plane. Dimples make a smile look like it stretches out to the edge of the jaw. They add an overall permanent youthfulness and bring out the radiance of the rest of the face, including the eyes, cheekbone, and lips.
