The fifth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has emphatically arrived. Officially kicking off the summer movie blockbuster season. Pirates 5 known as Dead Men Tell No Tales is action packed and full of suspense. It has vivid imagery and dramatic sequences. Symphonic sounds and well-timed humor. It has also exceptional acting. This is evident as Johnny Depp, Javier Bardem, and Geoffery Rush headline a cast also joined by international star Golshifteh Farahani.

Farahani stars as Shansa, a sea-witch in a scene stealing role. It may be difficult recognizing the alluring Farahani, as her character is devoid of Golshifteh’s lush brunette hair. Her sun soaked skin has been paled, and added to it are circular streaks of hieroglyphic-like writing. She has a large maroon circle on her forehead, resembling the sun from a Japanese flag. Her body is adorned with jewelry and other wordly mystic ink. Her beaming Hollywood Smile has been disfigured to a set of rotten dentition.

Despite not being physically recognizable, Golshifteh Farahani delivers an uncanny performance, thus ensuring the audience recognizes her for her acting prowess. When you meet Farahani in Disney’s latest Pirates adventure, she is met in incarceration by an urgently presenting Captain Barbossa.

Farahani’s Shansa is a gypsy-like star gazing human GPS who informs Barbossa of the wherabouts of Bardem’s character, a living ghost called Captain Salazar. Throw in a race for the Triton of Poseidon and Salazar out for revenge against Jack Sparrow and you may just have another billion dollar hit.

Golshifteh continues to make her indelible mark for actors of Iranian heritage in Tinseltown. As we spoke to Disney CEO Bob Iger at the Hollywood Pirates premiere, we expressed our excitment and gratitude towards the casting of Golshifteh Farahani, a prolific Persian starring in the latest Pirates franchise.
