The Pirates of the Caribbean features a bevy of visual spectacles, one reason why the franchise gives value to the movie-goer. The attention to detail also help keep drawing audiences to the Pirates films. The vividness of the imagery is apparent in each scene. A most notable of which is its makeup. The character’s teeth and gums gives them further realism on screen. The dental prosthetics made by Jac Charlton add a stamp of unmatched authenticity.
Jac Charlton of JackFx studio was responsible for the majority of dental prosthetics for the Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Men Tell No Tales.
The bright Hollywood Smiles of the Keira Knightley and Brenton Thwaites in comparison the diseased and decayed teeth and gums of the characters Scrum and Captain Barbossa show the discrepancy in oral health among the characters.
Jack Sparrow’s smile has to keep up with Johnny Depp’s evolving Hollywood Smile. In Dead Men Tell No Tales Javier Bardem’s Captain Salazar sees his impeccable smile get ravaged when he becomes a living ghost.
As Dr. Seuss once said “Teeth are always in style.” When it comes to the Pirates of the Caribbean films teeth also help bring substance to the style. Thanks largely in part to Jac Charlton.
