Iran won its first game of the 2018 World Cup with a triumphant 1-0 victory against Morocco tonight. An own goal by a Moroccan defender in the 93rd minute propelled Team Melli to first place in Group B, after Portugal and Spain tied 3-3.

Iran is currently in first place in Group B, ahead of Spain and Portugal.

Iran’s largely defensive tactic paid off. But it’s their offense that will need some work as they prepare next to take on Spain in Game 2 of group play.
