Nazanin Boniadi is no stranger to premium cable channels or to the spy/action genre on premium cable channels, for that matter. Having previously starred as Fara Sherazi on HBO’s Homeland, Boniadi is now starring as series regular, Clare, on Starz’s Counterpart.
Counterpart is a science fiction thriller created by Justin Marks, starring Academy Award™ winner J.K. Simmons, among others in a talented cast. The series is getting rave reviews by critics nationally, many calling it one of the best shows of 2018.
Counterpart is about a mysterious world that also has a parallel universe, where everyone started the same as their counterpart self. Simmons’ character, Howard Silk, has a menial job at a Berlin-based U.N. spy agency. He soon discovers that his company keeps the secrets of this alternative dimension, safe (and hidden). He finds himself in a dangerous situation, where he can only trust his counterpart.
Boniadi’s character Clare is a handler for an assassin named Baldwin (Sara Serraiocco). Counterpart keeps its suspense high by not revealing much to the audience, keeping them guessing for what transpires. But unlike other shows with alternative dimensions, the premise is fresh and original. The superb acting also helps give it authenticity with its complex layering.
Jordan Horowitz, one of the producers of Counterpart, and an Academy Award™ nominated producer for last year’s La La Land, told us at the premiere of Battle of the Sexes, “Nazanin is crushing it. She’s on fire !”
We tend to agree, because Nazanin Boniadi ‘crushes it’ with every character she portrays. Watch Counterpart on Starz Sunday nights.
