Rick Pitino is a winner. The Lakers have not won much of anything as of late. Pitino is a two time national champion, having led both Kentucky and Louisville to NCAA championships. Vacated or not, he still led Louisville to a 2013 title.
The Lakers have LeBron James and pretty much no one else. If the Lakers can land Pitino then they will surely get another big time free agent, a la Kyrie Irving. Pitino has expressed interest in coaching at the NBA level again.
The Lakers have not made the Playoffs since 2013, the year Pitino won an NCAA title. He is a molder of boys into men. The Lakers, aside from LeBron and a few veterans, are a bunch of boys. Pitino will lead the Lakers to a title in three seasons or less and will further cement his legacy as one of the greatest coaches of all time.
